As soon as I left school (at 16, but only just!) I joined Heath Rovers (a Bishop's Stortford team) and played for them on a regular basis on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning until I moved to Hertford when I was 21 (had over 100 caps with them, as you might expect)
At Hertford I played for Ictoan (in case you wondered: I Can't Think Of A Name) on a Saturday afternoon and Hertford Rangers on a Sunday morning. A winger for the former, a forward for the latter.
The kids came along and football had to take a back seat. But I made a comeback in my early 30s with BP's third team in the Harlow Business House League where I captained them for a season before moving up to the second team. I finally finished playing football when I was 38, and by then playing for BP's first team.
More to come . . .
